Literature Text
He pushes bruised fingers through his hair
And smiles a smile thick with pain
But laughs because he can rise above it
Yeah, he's lived to see another day
It's hard to tell when you look at him
The man's been through hell and survived
But sometimes even when he's laughing
It doesn't quite reach his eyes
Still, he manages to keep them all going
To be a friend, a guardian, a light
Despite the nightmares craving his sleep
Despite the reality that marrs his life
And even though some memories are locked
He lets his loved ones fill the space
Never giving in, never backing out
He's willing to risk another pain
Because he'll never be a victim
And he's too strong to be overcome
The past is the past, even if it comes back
It'll never be enough to make him run
He'll keep moving towards the future
But never leave his friends behind
He'll stay at their sides, a shield, a smile
And he'll fight for the answers he wants to find
He's stronger than what we could hope to be
Stronger than what we can understand
But if we ever falter, if we're ever weak
He'll be there to take our hands
And smiles a smile thick with pain
But laughs because he can rise above it
Yeah, he's lived to see another day
It's hard to tell when you look at him
The man's been through hell and survived
But sometimes even when he's laughing
